@ Amadeus

You will have gathered that this is not the Amadeus Capital Partners web site and any views expressed here are not to be considered to be those of my employer – Amadeus Capital Partners:

Seed Investment in the UK

Laurence is chief executive of the Amadeus & Angels Seed Fund (AASF), with £10 million under management and up to £10 million for co-investment from Amadeus III. AASF is dedicated to providing seed money for disruptive start-up companies spanning the technology sectors. We’re looking for ambitious entrepreneurs who want to make a difference.

In 2001 Laurence established Amadeus’ seed activity with the Amadeus Mobile Seed Fund (AMSF) and made a number of investments. These include: Enigmatec, which has developed an automated  data centre management system, virtualisation management system and cloud computing solutions; Nujira, which is developing advanced power amplifier technology that will solve some of the enduring problems faced by the cellular industry both in infrastructure and in the handset.

In 2006, Laurence bid on the Governments Enterprise Capital Fund programme and was awarded a fund – named the Amadeus & Angels Seed Fund. See our portfolio under the Seed Portfolio tab.

Laurence brings a wealth of experience to his role in evaluating these opportunities. He spent seven years at Motorola, working in a variety of hands-on roles managing businesses in the traditional mobile sector as well as its mobile commerce ventures. Many of his jobs at Motorola involved developing strategy and implementing new business ideas. Laurence started his career at Smiths Industries in the Aerospace Sensors division, moving on to engine controls and fuel gauging systems. Think what makes the Boeing 777 stay up – now relax, his role was modest but fun.

Laurence received an MA in Marketing from Kingston University, an MSc in Optics and a BSc in Physics both from Imperial College of London University. He speaks fluent French.

  3. Hi Laurence -

Apologies for the blunt approach, but I am currently running a series of workshops at the British Library under the banner of “Innovation” and would like to invite you as a guest speaker on “What are early stage VCs looking for in a company with a disruptive/emerging technology?”

My workshops at the British Library focus on the “Investor Pitch” and in September, we are honing in on Innovation and businesses with potentially disruptive technologies. Here is a link to the BL website’s event description:
    http://www.bl.uk/bipc/workevents/inpitch.html

The audience will be tech entrepreneurs and there tends to be a good mix of interesting ideas and personalities in the room.

The workshop will be held on Monday, 13th September 2010, between 1.00 and 5.00 pm at the British Library and it would be great if you could spare an hour to talk about your experience with investing in innovative technologies and perhaps answer some audience questions.

    My company website is http://www.messagelab.co.uk.

Look forward to hearing from you -

    Best regards,
    Irene
